Old Hooky

Built in 1872

Old Hooky, named for the English town of Hook Norton, was built in approximately 1872, after Bill Cummings acquired the land around it in the same year. Built from native limestone quarried from the surrounding land, it’s stout construction features three foot thick walls and hand dressed corner stones. The land and home remained in family hands until it was bought by Mr. Schutte in 1955, a naval aviator and veteran of World War II.  In 1988 he built a Terra-Dome, concrete, domed house. After his death, Crooked Post Ranch purchased the land in 2018, and we spent a year renovating the two homes. Now, Old Hooky serves as an avenue to share our love of the land, allowing guests and visitors to the area to experience first hand America’s native grasslands and wooded riverine settings of the Flint Hills of Kansas.
